The filter press is an equipment used for liquid solids separation processes. This process uses the pressure drive principle, supplied by a pump with electric or pneumatic drive.
The sludge or paste is injected into the center of the press where each press chamber is filled. This process is gradual and ensures the filling of the last chamber until the first where then the sludge begins to come together. As the chambers fill, the pressure increases due to the formation of thick sludge drier. And the liquid in turn exceeds the canvas filter meeting with the exit passages dedicated to it. After the pressurization process, usually the discharge of the "pie" is done only with the opening of the plates, but in some cases, the plates should be shaken while they are being opened. A plastic spatula can be used to remove excess. At the end of each operation, tarps/fabrics are cleaned using water and ready for the next cycle.
The filter press can produce up to 99% recovery of solids, leaving a humidity around 15% to 20%.
